1. Uh… George, Could We Talk?

I’ve been an avid news consumer since I was about 16 years old. It wasn’t until recently that I have become more and more apprehensive of what’s in the news each time I go to my RSS feed. The news is regularly going from bad to worse, thanks in part to a lot of decisions being made by President Bush.

As I see whats going on with Iraq and the Scooter Libby pardoning, I am taken back to some words written by a true conservative:

“Another factor in maintaining balance involves the element of time. As we peer into society’s future, we — you and I, and our government — must avoid the impulse to live only for today, plundering, for our own ease and convenience, the precious resources of tomorrow. We cannot mortgage the material assets of our grandchildren without risking the loss also of their political and spiritual heritage. We want democracy to survive for all generations to come, not to become the insolvent phantom of tomorrow.”

    – Dwight D. Eisenhower, 1961

It is my personality to trust that other peoples intentions are altruistic in intent and give them the benefit of the doubt. However, as you watch the nightmare train of political blunders, especially the blunders that cost human lives, you wonder if America is simply plundered by the current administration.

This train of thought put a damper in my 4th of July, however, like any good American, I went out and blew stuff up, hope that was patriotic enough to make up for questioning Mr Bush’s motives.

God Bless America, we need all the help we can get!
