Obama’s State of The Nation Address
Presidential Entrance
Nice to see him working both sides of the isle. Even if it is mostly symbolic.
Introduction
I’m watching the standing ovation and watching the faces of these clapping senators. It’s almost disgusting how they clap, It’s like self congratulation or political masturbation. Kind of gross.
Initial Thoughts
It’s interesting to see him discuss education and it’s roll in our current situation. I’ve always noticed that he hits on America’s education system as problematic and a systemic root of many of our problems. I think I agree…
Agenda: Jobs
Another standing ovation… Reviewing his work so far on the job creation problem.
Because of this plan, families who are struggling to pay tuition costs will recieve a 2,500 tax rebate for all 4 years.
I wish that was around when I was in school… Again, it looks like he’s linking education as a part of the job market.
Banking & Lending
The flow of credit is the lifeblood of our country [..] Businesses are forced to do lay-offs, and our economy struggles even more.[...]
Housing Foreclosure
We have initiated a loan program for those responsible home-owners who’ve been effected by this market.
Banking
He’s talking tough on the banking industry. I’m glad to see this. It’s mostly talk but I think it needs to be done in order to restore confidence.
This time… CEO’s wont be able to use tax payers money to pad bank accounts and buy expensive drapes, and disappear on private jets… those days are over.
Burrrrn
The cost of action will be great, but I assure you, the cost of inaction will be greater.
This is my feeling on the subject.
Economic Regulatory Reform
Fund a program to reform our regulatory system? So the SEC won’t be retarded anymore? I doubt it…
Plan Going Forward
I will submit a budget to congress [...] it is a vision for america, a blueprint for our country [...]
He follows this up by pointing to some of the largest economic programs in our country’s history. Good way to tag it to some history.
Energy. Healthcare. Education
The three areas that he will push for spending in.
Energy - Looks like he’s pushing for green technology. Look for big government spending for energy focused production and service in the coming years.
Doubling the budget for energy research and development. $15 Billion in funding going to this sector.
Healthcare – Looks like a big push for health-care reform and updating on technology for record keeping to reduce costs.
Healthcare is a cost that causes a bankrupsy every 30 seconds in America.
Investing in research, reform, modernization of healthcare system.
Education - Hitting on standard democrat talking points for education, but also hitting on some very good points.
Quitting out on highschool is no longer an option. It’s no longer quitting on yourself, it’s quitting on your country
I like his talk regarding national service, and encouraging this mindset for people.
Responsibility for our children’s education must start at home
I agree, I think it’s time that we start holding parents responsible for their children and their education & upbringing.
National Debt
I want to pass a budget next year, ensures that each dollar that we spend, only reflects priorities on spending.
This is great, however, I’ll believe it when I see it.
We will eliminate the tax breaks for corporations that ship our jobs overseas.
Ha ha ha ha… Again, good luck.
If your family makes less than 250,000 a year, you will not see your taxes increase by a dime.
Good. This is important for the middle class families.
Doesn’t look like there is any talk of cutting military spending, infact they are talking about pay raises and healthcare. Good to know, hopefully we see this play out in the next months/years.
—Update—
Some of the stories he is telling here at the end are absolutely awesome. I haven’t heard them up to this point and it’s just great.
Going to just sign-off and watch. I’ll recap here later.
