Good to hear from you Mick!

I am glad you liked the post and your comment regarding interpersonal communications is spot on.

I of course couldn't highlight EVERY reason why we see these changes from generation to the next, but you did highlight the reason why these types of generalizations are pointless... The person isn't the problem, it's simply an "evolution of perspective" due to changes in our society.

Sam, good job deconstructing the argument. You sounded like many teacher friends of mine speaking about differences in students.
I think another point that could be added to your argument is interpersonal communication and it's shift over the past 10 years. I can now see pictures of Machu Pichu posted by my wife's cousin and realize my life could include that! Throughout history, human beings have shown the ability to adapt / copy when they can see someone else successfully do something that resonates with that person who can see the example.

Thanks Peter.

I think Jason's original post had small nuggets that I'd agree with, however it lacked focus, and while it started out as a discussion regarding jobs, it ended up being an attack on an entire generation. My company hires 90% Gen-Y talent, and has built it's success WITH them. As a Gen-Y, it might just be easier for me to relate, but I can tell from personal experience, we've got more involvement and passion from them than any traditional employee that wants to just work 9-5 and leave.

I truly believe that good leadership, is a large part of getting the results you want from the people on your team, and some people simply can't recognize that fact.

I may never be as "successful" in the terms that Jason feels is success, but I do sleep well at night, and love getting up in the morning to work with my team. Who can ask for more from life?

Sam, nice post. I can't agree with you more about putting the time into nurturing people. I certainly think it's a two way street in making sure that people grow in your company... it has to be mutually beneficial and even in a recession you can't just say an employee is lucky to just have a job... because that's just BS.

By Verizon introducing 4G, they made overloading their network easy, so they put data caps. That makes 4G irrelevant, since as you say, you can use up your allowance quickly. So people say, use your WiFi for volume (downloads, video chat, Netflix). Exactly: don't use 4G. BUT, there is no 3G unlimited anymore... SO, it's now useful for emails & web browsing. I think that is going backwards!

I agree with you completely. I have a Verizon iPhone myself. To me 3G data speed is just fine enough to stream pandora music and Netflix video. That's mostly what I need my phone to be able to do. If 4g tethering was unlimited, then it would allow me to ditch my home ISP and just use my cell phone for Internet but with data caps it makes it pointless because you would reach the data cap much faster using a computer. Who cares how fast my cell phone can load a web page? It's fast enough already. Ditch the caps and maybe then it would be worthwhile!!

Sam, excellent post. Stress is definitely a huge problem these days.

I find breathing meditations helpful. My mind tends to be a little crazy at times, and I have trouble controlling my thoughts and staying focused. It's as simple as sitting down in a comfy chair, closing your eyes, and focusing on your breath for awhile.

It might sound weird and a little "new-agey," but it works for me.

Keep up the good work!

Good post. I try to keep up-to-date on GTD apps as much as possible. I agree with you that these apps need to be simple, but GTD itself has a decent learning curve. Any GTD app therefore -- if it's truly helping users learn GTD -- is going to have a proportional learning curve. My Ready-Set-Do! script set for getting things done on the mac is simple with respect to staying out of the way -- it allows your file system on your mac to be the main way you organize and work on things -- but because there are GTD habits to learn, it has a proportional learning curve. So far I haven't found an app that does what RSD can do. The one missing piece for RSD right now is the ability to sync metadata with the cloud. If I could find a way to do that, it would be ideal.
